Margrét Jónsdóttir

Icelandic Ceramics Artist

After graduation from the Department of Ceramics at the Kolding School of Crafts and Design in Denmark, where she studied between 1980-1984, Margrét Jónsdóttir (b. 1961) has pursued her artistic career in Akureyri. Often nicknamed the capital of northern Iceland, this is the town where she was born and raised. In 1992 Margrét recieved a scholarship to study tile work at the Haystack School of Art and Crafts in Maine, USA. The Following year, she attended a mosaics course in Ravenna, Italy, and was nominated the municipal artist of Akureyri. Margrét creates functional objects for everyday use, larger craft objects and decorative works of art. She has participated in many group exhibitions, both in Iceland and abroad, and has held a number of solo exhibitions.
